What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a tiny titanium screw that acts like a natural tooth root. These implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth or several lost teeth, depending on the patient's needs.

Once the implant is surgically placed into the jaw bone, it will fuse with the natural bone and provide a stable foundation for a replacement tooth.

Dental implants not only prevent surrounding teeth from shifting, but they can also help address bite issues, jaw pain, and restore the natural appearance of your face.

Why Replace Missing Teeth?

If a tooth is missing, the teeth surrounding the gap may begin to shift out of place and cause misalignment issues. The bone around the area may also begin to deteriorate, potentially leading to further tooth loss.

The Dental Implant Process

The dental implant process requires some patience, as multiple appointments are required.

During the first appointment, your dentist will surgically insert the implant (a titanium screw) into your jaw bone beneath the gum tissue. As the tissue heals, the implant will integrate with the bone and the gums will form around the implant.

It will take about three to six months for you to fully heal after surgery, at which point you will return to our office.

Our dentist will take measurements of your mouth to craft a custom tooth replacement, such as a crown or denture. While waiting for your permanent tooth replacement to be created, you may be given a temporary crown or denture.

Once your permanent tooth restoration is ready, it will be attached to the implant and your smile will be restored.
